Membership Requirements
New Members
Eligible veterans applying for first time membership to Post 6 must submit the following information to the Post 6
Membership Committee:
- Download and complete The American Legion Membership application.
- Print two (2) completed copies. Keep one copy for your records. Mail the other copy to:
The American Legion Post 6, P.O. Box 641, Lovelock NV 89419, together with your dues payment.
(Dues amount cited on application.)
- A copy of your DD 214 or Discharge.
- Membership dues payment in the amount shown on application. Make checks payable to: The American Legion Post 6. Do not send cash.
- Upon submission your application will be reviewed by the Post 6 Membership Committee. If the information is
correct, membership will be approved and a membership card mailed to you.
Transfers
Veterans applying for transfers from their current Post to Post 6 must submit the following:
- A completed American Legion Post 6 Membership application.
- A copy of your DD 214 or Discharge.
- A copy of your American Legion membership card.
- Membership dues payment, if current year dues are not yet paid. If current dues are paid, please pay dues
for next year's membership.
Eligibility Dates
Membership eligibility in The American Legion is based on honorable service with the U. S. Armed Forces
between:
- World War I: April 6, 1917 - November 11, 1918
- World War II: December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946
- Korean War: June 25, 1950 - January 31, 1955
- Vietnam War: February 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975
- Leganon/Grenada: August 24, 1982 - July 31,1984
- Operation Just Cause: December 20, 1989 - January 31, 1990
- Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm: August 2, 1990 - To Date
Because eligibility dates remain open, all members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American
Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.
Veterans must have served at least one day of active military duty during one of the dates above and honorably
discharged or still serving honorably.
