Wendy Butler's Photos (464th Bombardment Group Webmaster)
Members of the 464th traveled by tour bus to Boothill Graveyard.
Boothill is located just north of Tombstone and about 65 miles or so southeast of Tucson, Ariz. The
first grave in the cemetery was dug in 1871. The name, Boothill, came about because many of those
graves are filled with people who died "with their boots on" (in a sudden or violent manner).
There are 250 (known) people buried in Boothill Graveyard. There were no more burials there after it
officially closed in 1884.
After touring Boothill, the Group continued on to Tombstone. They visited many
famous - and infamous - historic sites like the Birdcage Theater and Big Nose Kate's Saloon. At the
end of the day, they headed toward the OK Corral to watch a reenactment of the famous gunfight.
Upon arriving, they were admitted and seated first in recognition of their service to our country.
