The book "The First Fifty Years" is a history of the Pocatello,
Idaho airport - from it's activation as an Army air base in 1942 through 1992.
It is estimated that over 40,000 men and boys were trained
at Pocatello Army Air Base - among them, many members of the 464th.
The book offers many items of interest - such as the history
and the words to "The Star-Spangled Banner." Snippets of news from the events
that were occuring during those first, war-time years. There are even a few jokes
from The Bombardier, the on-base newspaper of the day;a detailed history of
the inception of the air base; complete maps of the base and surrounding area; a list of
songs that were popular during the war; many photos and reproductions of other
memorabilia of that era.
Toward the back of the book, in chapter 6, are many letters
from those who were stationed on the base to the author(s). This book is a great read for
those interested in our Group's early years.
On the second page is this dedication:
"THE FIRST 50 YEARS is not Copyrighted and permission
is hereby granted that it may be copied, used as newspaper, radio and T.V. advertising, read
and re-read by Mothers and Fathers, Brothers and
