James Hahne, 779th

James Hahne, of San Mateo, died Nov. 25 at the age of 87.
A native of Chicago, Hahne served in the U.S. Army Air Force during
World War II as a B-24 captain.
Over the course of his service, he was awarded the Flying Cross,
four Air Medals and two Presidential Citations.
He was also a captain for United Airlines. Hahne was a member
of the Air Line Pilots Association, the Elks Club and the American Legion. He also volunteered at Samaritan House.
Hahne was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathie, and his
brother, Harry Hahne.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Hahne; his sons, Scott, Dale
and Mike Hahne; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, his nephews, Rick and
Sam; brother-in-law J.R. Smeed and sister-in-law Claire Smeed.
A memorial service was celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St.
Matthew Episcopal Church, One S. El Camino Road in San Mateo.
