Arthur Thomas "Tom" Huntley, 779th
09 June 2005
|
Arthur "Tom" Huntley passed peacefully in his home surrounded
by his family on 9 June 05.
Beloved son of Arthur Thomas Huntley Sr. and Florence Avery MacKiddi
Huntley; Tom was born in West Los Angeles on 23 April 23. He attended Fairfax High School
and Cal Arts.
The sight of a P-38 flying over his home during WWII inspired Tom to
enlist in the Army Air Corps, where his love of flight took off. He served with the 464th Bombardment
Group, in Italy, as a B-24 Belly Gunner. Planes were his passion, owning several with his
airport buddies. Tom also built planes; his Nieuport XII
is on permanent display in the EAA Museum of Oshkosh, WI.
Tom had an inborn sense of aesthetic beauty, in art, nature and his
wife Rosemarie "Suzie" Huntley, whom he married 23 June 51. His hands could
express his art - from fabricating a violin to creating fine furniture - his trade and craft. Tom's
furniture has been displayed at the New York Metropolitan Museum and has furnished the
homes of celebrities.
Tom is survived by his wife Rosemarie, sons Mark T. Huntley and
David T. Huntley, M.D., daughters-in-law Debra and Lisa; grandchildren Stacey, Marcie and
Scott.
Family and friends were asked to attend a Celebration of Life in lieu of
flowers.
