Army Air Corps Bomb Group Narratives

The following Mission Narratives describe the activity of the 485th
and the 464th Bomb Groups of the 55th Air Wing (H), 15th. Army Air Force (out of
Italy) on Sunday, March 4th, 1945.
Mission Reports were written by S-2 (Intelligence Officers)
after interrogations of the bomber crews upon arrival back at the base. Details and
activities of each mission were compiled into a 3-4 page report for each bomber
group and then sent to the Intelligence Officer for signature. The reports were
combined with photographs (Bomb Plot Photographs and Bomb Charts) and
forwarded up the chain of command. The reports were typed on a manual
typewriter with multiple carbon copies.
The two examples that follow were transcribed from poor
copies that may have been made from carbon copies over 60 years old. The information
contained is revealing as to the mission this day, the crews experience and operational
aspects of the flight.
We are looking for volunteers to translate the 460th & 465th BG
Mission Narratives into Hungarian. Translators are needed (and always welcomed) for these and
other documents that require translation into Hungarian. We invite you to contact the project manager

A bombázók bevetési jelentései leírják
a 485-ös és a 464-es bombázó csoportok ténykedését
az 1945. március 4.-i vasárnapon. Ez a két bombázó
csoport az USA 15. Légierőjének az 55-ös bombázó
szárnyához tartozott, és Olaszországban állomásozott.
A bevetési jelentéseket az S2 jelölésű
hiradós tisztek irták, miután kihallgatták a bombázásból
a bázisra visszatérő pilótákat és a gépek
legénységét. A bevetés részleteit összevonták
egy jelentésbe, és továbbitották a hiradós tisztek
parancsnokának aláirás céljából. A jelentéshez fényképeket
és táblázatokat is csatoltak (bombák becsapódási
helye, száma, súlya, stb.), majd tovább küldték a
magasabb rangú tiszteknek . A jelentéseket több példányban
indigó segitségével gépelték.
A mellékelt két bevetési jelentést
több mint hatvan éves, alig olvasható sokadik másolatról
kellett átírni. A jelentések tartalma megvilágitja a bevetés
körülményeit azonn a napon, valamint a gépek legénységének
a tapasztaltságát és képességét a teendők
végrahajtására.
Önkénteseket keresünk a 460-as és 465- Ös
Bombázó Csoport Bevetési Jelentésének magyarra való fordításához.
Szükségünk lenne fordítókra (s hálásan megkÖszÖnnénk
segitségüket) ezek és egyéb dokumentumok magyarra való fordításához.
